PAUL POIRET - The iconic fashion designer of the 1910s

Paul Poiret was truly the King of Fashion, the celebrity fashion designer of the decade. He did revolutionize fashion. He is known for not only liberating women from the corset but also giving women other exotic colors in stead of the traditional palettes like mauve, lilac or cream. Take a look at these vibrant colors from the following images and you will know what I mean. His muse was his wifey, Deniz.

Let's take a look at this fantastic dress with a harem pants, a silhouette which hasn't been seen before Paul Poiret. He really loves and embraces internationalism, doesn't he!

He was also famous for creating this lamp shade dress, a silhouette which fits the small and doll-like body ideal of the decade.

He had his own fragrance line, all of them with very exotic packaging. You can also see that he was in love with internationalism, he was inspired by places like the East, China, Middle East, Morocco, Persia...

And his famous quote is “I do not impose my will upon fashion. I am merely the first to perceive women’s secret desires and to fulfill them”, such an inspirational quote for young fashion designer nowadays. Are we living in such a superficial world that we forget fashion is about being fun, being happy, about feeling great under one's skin? Or do we just care about creating the popular selfie look that would go viral over social media?

To end this article, let's take a look at other works from Paul Poiret.
